Overview

Kamalgad Fort is a historic hill fort located near Wai in the Satara district of Maharashtra at an elevation of approximately 4,500 feet above sea level. Surrounded by dense forests, scenic valleys, and stunning Sahyadri landscapes, the trek offers a perfect combination of adventure, history, and nature. The trail passes through lush greenery, village routes, and forest patches before reaching the fort top, where trekkers can explore the famous “Geru Well” (Kavechi Vihir), a unique deep rock-cut well accessed through narrow stone steps. The summit provides breathtaking panoramic views of the Krishna Valley and surrounding forts, making it an ideal moderate-level trek for both beginners with basic fitness and experienced trekkers seeking an immersive Sahyadri experience.

Old Mahabaleshwar is one of the most scenic forest treks in the Mahabaleshwar region, offering a beautiful journey through dense evergreen forests, waterfalls, streams, and untouched nature trails. Starting from the quaint village of Jor, the trail follows an old ghat route rich in biodiversity and cool mountain terrain before reaching the historic Old Mahabaleshwar plateau. Known for its ancient temples, serene surroundings, and breathtaking valley viewpoints of the Western Ghats, the region becomes especially mesmerizing during the monsoon and post-monsoon season with lush greenery, flowing streams, and mist-covered forests. Itinerary

Day 1: Kamalgad Fort Trek:

Participants will arrive at Pune early morning and proceed towards the base village near Kamalgad Fort after breakfast enroute. The trek begins through scenic forest trails leading to the historic fort situated at 4,511 ft, offering beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding Sahyadri ranges. After exploring the fort and enjoying packed lunch at the top, the group will descend and transfer to the campsite for an evening of relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 2: Jor - Old Mahabaleshwar Trek:

After an early breakfast, the group will depart for the starting point of the scenic forest trail towards Old Mahabaleshwar. The trek passes through lush greenery, serene jungle paths, and beautiful viewpoints before reaching the historic Kshetra Mahabaleshwar region. Post exploration and lunch, participants will head towards the resort and unwind for the evening followed by dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Old Mahabaleshwar Sightseeing & Departure:

The final day will begin with a relaxed breakfast followed by resort checkout. Participants will explore popular local attractions around Mahabaleshwar including a visit to the famous Mapro Garden, known for its strawberry products and scenic ambience. After sightseeing, the group will begin the return journey to Pune with drop-off scheduled at Pune Railway Station by evening.

Important Notes
  • Moderate fitness is required: Participants should be physically fit and comfortable with walking on uneven terrain, ascending/descending trails, and outdoor activities for extended durations. Regular walking or basic fitness preparation before the trek is recommended.
  • Follow leader instructions strictly: All participants are expected to cooperate with trek leaders and instructors throughout the program to ensure smooth coordination, safety, and proper group management during activities and transfers.
  • Carry personal essentials: Participants must carry suitable trekking shoes, personal water bottles, required medications, rain protection, extra clothing, and other personal essentials for a comfortable trekking experience.
  • Maintain cleanliness & avoid littering: The trekking route passes through eco-sensitive forest regions and natural habitats. Participants are requested to responsibly dispose off waste and help preserve the natural environment.
  • Timelines and schedules must be followed: To ensure smooth execution of the itinerary and avoid delays, all participants are expected to adhere to reporting times, activity schedules, and instructions shared by the organizing team.
  • Strictly prohibited substances: Consumption or carrying of tobacco, smoking products, alcohol, or any intoxicating substances during the trek/activity is strictly prohibited. Any misconduct or non-compliance may result in immediate removal from the program without any refund.
