Overview

Kuari Pass is a popular trek near Auli, Joshimath in Uttarakhand. Kuari pass trek is popularly known as "Lord Curzon's trail". The British Viceroy, George Curzon, attempted crossing it and remarked about the beauty of the trek. Though the pass is not very high, it offers excellent views of Nanda Devi, Dunagiri and other Himalayan peaks. The Nanda Devi national park and the Rishi Ganga gorge are visible from the first day itself. Chaukhamba massif, Neelkanth, Mana, Kamet, Hathi Ghoda, Trishul, Nandaghunti, Nanda Devi, Dunagiri, are the peaks visible on the trek.

  •  Weather: During the Kuari Pass Trek in April to May, the weather is usually pleasant. The sun shines gently, and sometimes there might be a little rain shower to freshen things up.
  • Scenery: During this time, the meadows turn into a lush sea of green. It's like nature's canvas coming to life with a burst of colourful wildflowers.
  • Temperature: Temperatures along the Kuari Pass in the daytime usually range from 10 to 15 degrees Celsius, with nights being cooler, typically between 0 and 5 degrees Celsius. It's important to bear in mind that temperatures may vary with altitude, and higher elevations often entail colder conditions.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Pune to Delhi to Rishikesh

  • Reporting at Pune Airport. Aboard the flight to Delhi.
  • Reach New Delhi Airport and proceed towards Rishikesh by AC bus.
  • Reach Rishikesh by evening and check in at hotel.
  • Overnight at Hotel.

Day 2 – Rishikesh to Karanaprayag 

  • Drive distance: 170 km | Drive Duration: 6-7 hours
  • We start very early from Rishikesh and reach Karanprayag by evening.
  • The drive is through the towns of Devprayag, Rudraprayag, which happen to be two of the 5 prayags or confluences of rivers, having religious significance.
  • We arrive at Karanprayag by early evening and proceed to witness the Aarti at the Prayag in the evening.

Day 3 – Karanprayag – Dhak – Gulling 

  • Kuari Pass Trek begins.
  • We drive to Dhak village covering a distance of approximately 90 km. 
  • From Dhak, we begin our walk. It is a 5 km walk along the mountain-side and we get to see beautiful forests and valleys enroute.
  • In about 4-5 hours, we will reach our campsite.
  • Overnight camp (Tent Stay).

Day 4- Gulling to Lower Khulara 

  • Trek to Lower Khulara.
  • We cover an approximate distance of 6 km today. We will reach campsite in 3 to 4 hours.
  • Surrounded by oak trees, we will have a Steep climb in some patches. Khulara is an open meadow with a view of surrounding peaks like Hathi and Ghodi.

Day 5 - Lower Khulara - Kuari Pass Summit - Lower Khulara/Taali

  • Trek to Kuari Pass. Summit Day.
  • Today will be a steep climb for first 1.5 hours with a gradual ascent.
  • We reach a ridge which is a part of Lord Curzon’s trail. 
  • We can see the peaks including Chaukhambha, Neelkanth, Mana, Hathi, Ghodi.
  • Post reaching Kuari Pass after 6 hours approximately, we ease off into a moderate descent either returning to Lower Khulara or camping at Tali depending on weather conditions.
  • Overnight camp (Tent Stay).

Day 6 - Lower Khulara/Taali to Dhak to Karnaprayag.

  • Trek from Lower Khulara/Tali to Dhak
  • We start descending after breakfast towards Dhak village. Reach Dhak village by 01.30 pm. 
  • After lunch drive towards Karnaprayag.
  • Overnight at Hotel.

Day 7 - Karnaprayag to Rishikesh

  • Drive distance: 170 km | Drive Duration: 6-7 hours
  • Drive from Karnaprayag to Rishikesh.
  • Overnight stay at Rishikesh (Hotel Stay).

Day 8 - Explore Rishikesh and Activities

  • Optional Adventure activities like – River Rafting in Ganga (Included in Package), Zipline over Ganga and other adventure activities at Thrill Factory in Shivpuri.
  • Witness the beautiful Ganga aarti.
  • Overnight in Rishikesh in Hotel.

Day 9 - Time to Say Good Bye and cherish unforgettable memories of trek. 

  • Departure for Delhi by AC bus from Rishikesh.
  • Reach Delhi by 01.00 pm. After that transfer to New Delhi Airport.
  • Aboard the flight back to Pune with unforgettable memories of trek.
  • Trek Ends.
Inclusions/Exclusions

What is included in the tour

  • Transportation from Delhi to Delhi.
  • Stay is included from Day 1 to Day 8 (Rishikesh to Rishikesh). You will be staying in a hotel/guest house at the base camp. The rest of the days will be camping when on the trek.
  • Charges for trekking and river rafting as per itinerary.
  • Vegetarian meals along the trek route from the Karnaprayag to Karnaprayag.
  • Sleeping bag, mattress, tents, kitchen tent, toilet tent, utensils and crampon (if required).
  • Professional Trek Leaders, guide, cook and support staff.
  • All trekking permits and forest camping charges are included.
  • First aid medical kit.

What is NOT included in the tour

  • Charges for air / train travel up to and from Delhi.
  • Personal luggage with mass not exceeding 12 kg per bag per person can be carried by porters/mules @ Rs 400 per day per bag.
  • Meals during transit from Pune to Karnaprayag (base camp) and back.
  • Optional / Add on / Extra activity charges.
  • Medical expenses (apart from first aid).
  • Any kind of shopping, mineral water, optional sight-seeing, and any other expenses of personal nature.
  • Any expenses arising out of unforeseen circumstances like flight delay / cancellation / hike in fare, strike or any other natural calamities or any emergency evacuation expenses.

Few Important Tips:

  • Dress in layers: Carry at least 3 layers at the trek.  Weather is quite unpredictable so we need to keep ourselves warm. Keep it simple, but warm enough. Pack your backpack as per provided Trek essential list.
  • Thermos Flask (1ltr) is very important on winter trek as water in normal bottle freezes due to severe temperature.
  • Do not carry any precious items like jewellery at the trek. Mountainfit Team will not be responsible for loss of damage of such items.
  • Carry extra plastic bags for wet clothes/garbage/etc. “DO NOT LITTER THE TRAIL, KEEP IT CLEAN”
  • Drone and satellite phone is not allowed so please don’t bring any
