Overview

Kothaligad Fort, also known as Peth Fort, is a small Fort located in the Raigad District of Maharashtra. It is situated at an elevation of 3,100 feet above sea level and is known for its unique architecture and historical significance. The Fort was built in the 13th Century by the rulers of the Bhoj dynasty and later conquered by the Maratha Empire under Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The Fort played a significant role in the Maratha-Mughal war and was used as a strategic point for keeping a watch on the nearby region.

This Fort has two main entrances and is surrounded by a thick wall. It has a temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha at the top and provides a panoramic view of the Sahyadri mountain range. The Fort is a popular destination among trekkers and adventure enthusiasts who visit to witness it's natural beauty and historical significance.

  2. Lord Ganesha Temple: At the top of the fort, there is a small temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha. This temple is believed to be more than 100 years old and attracts a large number of devotees.

  3. Iconic Pinnacle: The Fort has a distinctive funnel-shaped pinnacle that’s hollow inside with a spiral staircase carved in stone - truly a unique architectural feature.

Itinerary
  • Report at Hotel Kalpana near Saras Baug, Pune at 5:30 am sharp.
  • Leave for Kothaligad Fort at 6:00 am.
  • Have breakfast on the way & reach base village at 10:30 am. Short briefing by the Trek Leader.
  • Start the trek towards Kothaligad Fort at around 10:45 am.
  • Reach at the top of the Fort by 1:15 pm.
  • Explore the Fort and have lunch on the Fort. Start descending towards base village by 2:30 pm.
  • Reach at the base village approximately by 4:30 pm. Freshen up.
  • Start return journey towards Pune at around 4:45 pm.
  • On the way, we will halt for Tea and snacks.
  • We will be back to Pune approximately by 9:30 pm. (depending on traffic conditions)
  • Trek ends.

  • A Good Quality Rucksack (Pack everything in Plastic Bags to avoid getting wet)
  • Minimum 2 litres water bottle.
  • Lunch. (carry packed lunch)
  • Trekking / Sports Shoes.
  • T-shirt, Track pant etc.
  • Rain jacket / Poncho
  • Extra set of clothes, Sweater and Sandals / Flipflops (can be kept in bus)
  • Torch with Extra Batteries
  • ID card.
  • Napkin/ Towel.
  • ORS or Electral (Optional)
  • Some snacks for the journey and trek.
  • Personal Medicines, if any.
