Mount Yunam (6,111 m) in Himachal Pradesh’s remote Lahaul region beckons adventurers to a thrilling 7-day expedition that begins at windswept Baralacha La Pass along the Leh-Manali highway and leads through rocky trails, loose scree slopes, and glacial corridors that challenge both endurance and resolve. After settling into the tranquil Bharatpur campsite at 4,800 m on alpine meadows dotted with wild thyme, blue poppies, and edelweiss, a midnight summit push carries climbers upward into the star-streaked sky, rewarding those who brave the final ascent with a 360-degree masterpiece of the Chandra Bhaga peaks, the barren valleys of Spiti and Ladakh, and the distant Zanskar ridges glowing in dawn’s first light. Steeped in ancient spiritual lore as both a sacred abode of deities and a historic Indo-Tibetan trade corridor, Mount Yunam now shines as a reliable, non-technical proving ground, offering rare sightings of bharal, snow partridges, kiang, and red foxes, all wrapped in the silent serenity that comes only from trekking far from crowded routes.
