Overview

Kamalgad Fort, also known as Bhelanja or Kattalgad, is a historical hill Fort located in Satara District of Maharashtra. Situated at an altitude of around 4,511 feet, the Fort is surrounded by steep rock faces and dense forests, making it an adventurous yet lesser-known trekking destination in the Sahyadris.

Unlike many Forts in the region, Kamalgad does not have traditional fortifications or elaborate structures, but it's natural defense and strategic location once made it an important military outpost during the Maratha Empire. The Fort offers panoramic views of the Dhom Dam backwaters, Mahabaleshwar plateau, and the surrounding region.
