Lohagad Fort, is a prominent hill Fort located in the Sahyadri mountain range of Maharashtra, near Lonavala and around 65 km from Pune. Situated at an altitude of about 1,033 meters (3,389 feet), this Fort boasts a rich historical legacy that dates back over 2,000 years, having been ruled by dynasties such as the Satavahanas, Chalukyas, Mughals, and later, the Marathas.
Lohagad Fort played a strategic role in the reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who used it to store loot from the successful Surat campaign. The most distinctive feature of Lohagad is it's Vinchu Kata—a long, narrow fortified spur that resembles a scorpion’s tail, offering panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and the Pawna Lake. Lohagad Fort is one of the most popular monsoon treks near Pune and Mumbai, attracting nature lovers, history enthusiasts, and beginner trekkers alike.
