Har Ki Dun Trek: An Enchanting Journey Amidst Picturesque Surroundings

Har ki Dun literally means the Valley of Gods because it is believed that Pandavas took this route to go to heaven. Har means Shiva and Dun means a valley. The Har ki Dun trek situated in Uttarkashi district in the Garhwal Himalayas, is one of the most scenic treks in Uttarakhand with a total altitude of approximately 12,000 feet above sea level. On this trek, you get to experience a wide variety of flora and fauna as well as spectacular views of the mountain peaks like Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch and Black Peak. 

The total trek distance of Har ki Dun trek is approximately 60 kms starting from the beautiful village of Sankri and passing by the gushing Supin river. The best time to do this trek is between the months of March to June and September to November. During March to June, you will get to experience never-seen-before landscapes with a backdrop of the snow-covered peaks and plenty of flowers blooming in the forests and the meadows. In September, one can see the lush green Har ki Dun valley and the same valley turning into a white carpet of snow in the months of October and November.

The main highlight of Har ki Dun trek is the 2,000 years old Osla village. This village displays the rich cultural heritage of the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand and you will get to see different rituals and traditions and the warm hospitality of the local people of Osla. We also try to visit the Jaundhar Glacier at the end of this trek. This glacier is located at the base of the Swargarohini massif.

Har ki Dun is an easy to moderate level trek. In order to do this trek, you need to follow a regular fitness routine at least 2 months prior to the commencement of the trek. Following a regular fitness regime such as walking, running, cycling etc. will make your trek memorable and hassle-free.
