Irshalgad Fort is a picturesque hill fort located between Matheran and Panvel in Maharashtra’s Raigad District. Situated at an altitude of around 3,700 feet, the fort is known more for it's dramatic pinnacle and panoramic views than for it's military history. It served as a watchtower during the Maratha era and is now a popular destination for trekkers and adventure lovers, especially during the monsoon season.
The trek to Irshalgad is relatively easy to moderate, making it suitable for beginners who want a taste of trekking in the Sahyadris. The highlight of the trek is reaching the needle-like pinnacle, though the final rock climbing section to the very top is recommended only for experienced climbers with proper gear. The trail passes through lush green landscapes, village settlements like Nanol and Irshalwadi, and offers amazing views of Matheran hills, Morbe Dam, and Prabalgad Fort.
