Rajgad to Torna Fort Trek
₹ 6,200
Embark on one of Maharashtra’s most iconic ridge treks, linking two historic giants of the Maratha Empire — Rajgad, Shivaji Maharaj’s capital, and Torna, the first fort he captured at just 16. This thrilling route winds through rugged ridgelines, dense forests, and remote mountain passes, offering panoramic views and a deep dive into Maratha history.
Rajgad Fort — The Seat of Strategy and Legacy
Rajgad has witnessed pivotal moments in Shivaji Maharaj’s life: the birth of his son Rajaram, the passing of Queen Saibai, his dramatic return from Agra, and the burial of Afzal Khan’s head in the Mahadarwaja walls. It was one of the 17 forts retained under the Treaty of Purandar in 1665, underscoring its strategic importance.
Torna Fort — The Dawn of an Empire
Also known as Prachandagad, Torna was Shivaji Maharaj’s first conquest, marking the rise of the Maratha Empire. Built in the 13th century and later fortified by Shivaji, the fort boasts massive bastions, ancient temples, and commanding views. It changed hands between dynasties before being reclaimed by the Marathas.
Madhe Ghat — Nature Meets Valor
Nestled near Torna, Madhe Ghat is a scenic mountain pass surrounded by misty plateaus and dense forests. It offers sweeping views of valleys and distant forts like Rajgad and Raigad. The 200+ ft Madhe Ghat Waterfall roars to life during monsoon, making it a favorite for trekkers and nature lovers.
Historically, Madhe Ghat was the route used to carry the mortal remains of Tanaji Malusare to his native village. A memorial at the site honors his sacrifice, adding emotional depth to this wild landscape.
